Demystifying the mystery of Being

Last autumn, On the Mystery of Being: Contemporary Insights on the Convergence of Science and Spirituality was published, introduced and edited by Zaya and Maurizio Benazzo, co-founders of the Science and Nonduality (SAND) conferences. They say in the Introduction, “we can never understand, but only surrender to the mystery we call life.” So the SAND conferences are gatherings where people celebrate the mystery of life.

In contrast, the creative power of Life, bubbling up directly from the Divine Origin of the Universe, like a fountain, has shown me how to demystify the mystery of Being and Life, answering many fundamental questions of human existence, such as Who are we?, What is our place within the overall scheme of things? and Where are we all heading at breakneck speeds?

Today, I joyfully celebrate this wondrous understanding, having realized Peace by unifying mysticism and mathematics, science and spirituality, and all other opposites in solitary Wholeness, where there is nothing and no one outside me.

For those curious to know more about the solution to the ultimate problem of human learning, generally regarded as unsolvable, I outline how this wonderful awakening has happened in a sixteen-page monograph titled ‘Demystifying the Mystery of Being’.

Inspired by Vimala Thakar’s call to awaken to Total Revolution, it highlights some of the cultural, cognitive constraints that are holding back many from realizing their fullest potential as superintelligent humans, in contrast to so-called superintelligent machines, able to beat humans at chess and other games.

Mapping the Cosmic Psyche

As the 2010s turn into the 2020s, I have written an 18-page monograph titled ‘Mapping the Cosmic Psyche’, as a summary of all the books, essays, and articles I have written during the past decade.

The Cosmic Psyche is the ninety-nine per cent of the Universe that is inaccessible to our five physical senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. In our materialistic world, it is thus the least understood proportion of the Universe, viewed as Consciousness, not as the physical universe.

Although I have been using the term Cosmic Psyche in my writings for fifteen years, this is the first time I have highlighted the creative role it plays in all our lives. By clarifying some points in my other writings, I trust that this piece could help people with their own self-inquiries, intelligently and consciously preparing for the next decade or three, which are likely to be the most tumultuous in human history.

As we rest in Stillness in the Presence of the Divine, may Love, Light, and Life be with us all at these unprecedented times.

Healing our sick society

Western civilization is based on delusion, with a false conception of the Universe, as the Totality of Existence. This psychological disturbance affects ever aspect of our lives, from the classroom to the boardroom and the bedroom.

Erich Fromm was one of the first to point out that we live in a sick society in the 1940s and 50s in The Fear of Freedom (Escape from Freedom in the USA) and The Sane Society. In the latter, the titles of the first two chapters were, “Are we Sane?” and “Can a Society be Sick?” answering them with a resounding ‘NO!’ and ‘YES!’, respectively.

Then in his greatest masterpiece To Have or To Be? in 1976, inspired by the Buddha and Meister Eckhart, Fromm said that if humanity is to avoid psychological and economic catastrophe, we need a holistic art and science of humanity as the basis of social reconstruction.

Invoking Self-reflective Intelligence and using my skills as an information systems architect, computer scientist, and mathematician, I have spent the last forty years developing the necessary self-awareness to be free of the delusions that so grievously affect the society I live in.

Life, bubbling up from the Divine Origin of the Universe, experienced as Consciousness, has healed my fragmented mind in Wholeness, as the union of all opposites. However, to reach the understanding I have today, I have needed to pass through an apocalyptic awakening, revealing the Universe’s innermost secrets: how it is intelligently designed and what it truly means to be human compared to computers with so-called artificial intelligence.

Furthermore, I have needed to adopt the most radical change in the work ethic since the invention of money some 4,000 years ago. Money is the primary immortality symbol, providing citizens with a precarious sense of security and identity in life because Western civilization teaches that humanity is separate from Divinity, as the Immortal Ground of Being that we all share.

This division is another symptom of our sick society, which we can best call schizophrenia ‘split mind’, out of touch with Reality. Not the least, we are taught from an early age that we must fight and compete with our fellow human beings for a slice of the finite monetary cake, causing much suffering and catastrophic ecological damage today.

So even though some know that Consciousness is all there is and Love is our Divine Essence, I live mostly in solitude, wondering if I could make a worthwhile contribution to society as a wise elder before our inevitable demise during the sixth mass extinction of the species on Earth.

To explain the dilemma I face in life, I have recently written a short piece on ‘The Meaning of Life’, answering the question, “What is the meaning of life?” that Nicolae Tanase, known as ‘Excellence Reporter’, asked me, as a contribution to his Encyclopedia of Life.

I have followed this up with a two-page monologue answering another Big Question of human existence, as I experience it, “Who are we?” This is available on my website for the Alliance for Mystical Pragmatics, with the motto ‘Harmonizing evolutionary convergence’.

A few have acknowledged the potential contribution that I could make to society, as a new Acknowledgements page on this website describes. However, we are, as yet, lacking the liberating cooperation that we need to collectively awaken to Total Revolution, as Vimala Thakar urged us to do in Spirituality and Social Action: A Holistic Approach in 1984.

The Cosmic Equation

To clarify my previous post, the Cosmic Equation is not a part of mathematics, for it lies beneath the foundations of all knowledge, including mathematics. I dress up the fundamental law of the Universe in the notation of mathematical logic in order to shake the very foundations of Western civilization.

For we are not educating our children, glued to their smartphones, to live in the world today, never mind the world that could exist when they come to have children of their own. The entire traditional world of learning, which our parents and teachers pass on to us, needs to be demolished so that we humans could have the opportunity to thrive and survive for as long as possible.

Digital devices connecting to social media exist today because underlying the Internet is a universal structure applicable in all cultures, disciplines, and industries, defined as a multidimensional network of hierarchical relationships. If this self-similar structure did not exist, the Internet could neither exist nor expand at hyperexponential rates of change.

So if we are to intelligently manage our business affairs with full awareness of what we are doing, we need to bring this holographic structure into consciousness so that it can be examined in the brilliant light of day with Self-reflective Intelligence.

Then we see that we do not reason linearly, as Aristotle and Euclid taught, from axioms or assumed truths. Rather, unlike the sequential way computers execute instructions, human thought is nonlinear and nondeductive, as Ted Codd, a fellow alumnus of IBM, pointed out in 1970 in his seminal paper ‘A Relational Model of Data’.

This paper, which founded the multibillion-dollar database industry, thus enables us to bring paradoxes into our reasoning, essential if we are to be free of our mechanistic conditioning. For we live in a paradoxical world, so if we reject self-contradictions from our reasoning—as is done in mathematical proof systems—the conceptual models that guide our lives will lead us dangerously astray. To be free of delusion, the only axiom we need is the Cosmic Equation, emerging directly from the Divine Origin of the Universe.

Most significantly, we then discover that the Universe is not just the physical universe of matter, space, and time, a conception we have inherited from the Babylonians in Mesopotamia, who focused much of their attention on the skies, seeking patterns in the mechanical movements they perceived, enabling them to make predictions of solar and lunar eclipses.

At about the same period in human history, the Rishis in the Indus Valley would have had a similar pristine view of the night sky, unsullied by the light pollution most of us suffer from today. But they looked inwards, discovering that the Universe is Consciousness, called Satchitānanda in Sanskrit, the ‘bliss of Absolute Truth and Consciousness’.

It is thus through introspection that we bring the ancient wisdom of the East into awakening communities, enabling us to live in Love, Peace, and Stillness in the Presence of the Divine at the end of time. Nothing is more beautiful.

Healing my Fragmented Mind in Wholeness

In a 2017 audiobook, titled The Theory of Everything: The Quest to Explain All Reality, Don Lincoln says that the theory of everything—as the holy grail of physics—will ultimately be a single equation that explains all physical reality.

But physical reality is but one percent of all reality. For instance, mathematical objects, like lines, numbers, and sets, and the theory of everything, itself, are not physical; they reside in the psyche, and so are properly the domain of depth psychology, as the foremost science.

Indeed, politics, business, and all the arts and sciences are guided by concepts that we form in our minds, many of which lie in the sub- and unconscious psyche, collectively known as the shadow.

So if we are to explain all reality, we need to open up the entire Cosmic Psyche to introspection with Self-reflective Intelligence. This is what has happened to me since I went through a death-and-rebirth experience in 1980, when I was 38, as I describe in a monograph titled ‘Healing my Fragmented Mind in Wholeness’.

There I explain how I have found the elusive equation that can explain everything in the utmost depths of my psyche, characterizing the inherent both-and nature of the Cosmos. Here is this buried treasure, the apotheosis and philosopher’s stone of 40,000 years of human learning, enabling us to discover what the Universe truly is and how it is intelligently designed:

Cosmic equation

This primal Cosmic Equation, which cannot be proven from any axiom or assumed truth, can also be expressed in words as the Principle of Unity: Wholeness is the union of all opposites. This fundamental law of the Universe represents the ancient wisdom of the East in the notation of mathematical logic, overcoming the self-centredness and one-sidedness of Western thought.

Once this irrefutable, universal truth is assimilated into consciousness, everything changes, enabling us to complete the final revolution in science, just as Johannes Kepler and Isaac Newton completed the first in the 1600s with New Astronomy, The Harmony of the World, and Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy.

By accepting that the paradoxical Cosmic Equation is the holy grail of human reason, the long-running war between science and spirituality could come to a peaceful resolution with the recognition that Consciousness is all there is. For then we would intelligently view both sides of any situation—encapsulated as yin and yang in the classic ‘Diagram of the Supreme Ultimate’—from the perspective of Nondual Wholeness.

Most significantly, what Heraclitus aptly called the Hidden Harmony enables us to discover what it truly means to be human compared to the other animals and machines, like computers. Such an understanding in the collective consciousness could lead to World Peace, helping us to prepare for the inevitable death of our species, most probably through near-term, abrupt climate change, the greatest existential crisis in human history.

For, as Matthew Fox wrote in the Foreword to Andrew Harvey and Carolyn Baker’s Savage Grace: Living Resiliently in the Dark Night of the Globe, also from 2017, “Ours is a time not only for scientists and inventors but also mystics and contemplatives to join hands so that our action flows from being and from a deep place of return to the Source.”

In such a safe, nurturing gathering, we could collectively support each other to become liberated from the delusions promulgated by materialistic, mechanistic science—with its misconception of Universe, as the Totality of Existence. As none of us is ever separate from any other being and as Love is the Divine Essence we all share, we could thereby realize our fullest potential as a species—as Homo divinus.

For, as Eckhart Tolle said in A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose, “We are a species that has lost its way,” concluding this popular, inspirational book with these words: “A new species is arising on the planet. It is arising now, and you are it!”

My Liberating Work Ethic

Since I resigned from my marketing job with IBM in London in May 1980, I have been following a liberating work ethic more focused on discovering what it truly means to be human than on technological development and making money.

As a business complement to the spiritual piece on ‘I am Wholeness’ that I wrote last week, I have written another two-page autobiographical note on ‘My Liberating Work Ethic’, explaining what being free of the constraints of the economic machine and the delusional education system means to me.

I am Wholeness

As an addendum to my essay ‘Our Human Story’, I have written a two-page autobiographical note on ‘I am Wholeness’. It outlines why the cultural and collective splits between science and spirituality and East and West no longer exist within me. Such an awakening, healing process completes the final revolution in science, which would enable us to live in Love, Peace, and harmony with each other in the Eternal Now if it were ever to be accepted.

Our Human Story

With psychosocial structures currently disintegrating into chaos and with materialistic, mechanistic science unable to solve this problem, I have used my pattern-detecting skills as a mathematician and information systems architect in business to write an 18-page summary of my forty years study of the psychodynamics of society.

The essay is titled ‘Our Human Story’, with three sections titled ‘A science of humanity’, ‘Our evolutionary story’, and ‘Awakening to Total Revolution’, available on the website for the Alliance for Mystical Pragmatics.

I trust that this holistic, transdisciplinary perspective could help further stimulate the awakening of intelligence and consciousness, assisting us to collectively unify science and mysticism in Love, Peace, Wholeness, and the Truth in Stillness and the Presence of the Divine.

Realizing Love, Peace, Wholeness, and the Truth

By understanding the root cause of conflict and suffering in the world, I continue to seek World Peace by uploading two further chapters in my final book on Unifying Mysticism and Mathematics, whose subtitle is To Realize Love, Peace, Wholeness, and the Truth, with these covers. For we cannot find genuine Inner Peace without ending the long-running war between science and religion, recognizing that God and the Universe are a single, undivided Being, inseparable from us as humans.

This also means recognizing that there is a primary-secondary relationship between the Eastern mystical and Western scientific worldviews, much easier for those imbued with Eastern spirituality than for those educated in the West. However, being a pandit, as a scholar of the scriptures, can also act as a hindrance to realizing the Truth that sets us free.

Following the first chapter titled ‘Business Modelling’, Chapter 2 is titled ‘Integral Relational Logic’, showing how, by starting afresh at the very beginning, these multidimensional business modelling methods have evolved into the commonsensical art and science of thought and consciousness we all implicitly use everyday to form concepts and organize our ideas.

This holographic, nonaxiomatic mathematical logic has emerged in consciousness through introspection to answer the most critical unanswered question in science: What is causing scientists and technologists, aided and abetted by computer technology, to drive the pace of scientific discovery and technological development at unprecedented exponential rates of acceleration?

As Integral Relational Logic has evolved from the modelling methods that information systems architects in business use to build the transcultural, transdisciplinary Internet, it can be used to integrate all knowledge in all cultures and disciplines into a coherent whole, thereby healing the fragmented mind and split psyche in Wholeness.

Most significantly, Integral Relational Logic enables us to admit synergistic, psychospiritual energies into rational thought, initiated by the Divine Power of Life, called Prāna in Sanskrit, emerging from Ākāsha, as the Æther, undetectable by our physical senses.

We are thus empowered to complete the final revolution in science, unifying the nonphysical and physical energies at work in the Universe, just as Johannes Kepler and Isaac Newton completed the first in the 1600s with New Astronomy, The Harmony of the World, and Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy.

To illustrate the taxonomic power of Integral Relational logic in action, Chapter 3 ‘From Zero to Transfinity’ shows how mathematics can be viewed as a generative science of beautiful patterns and relationships, emerging directly from the Divine Origin of the Universe, free from its axiomatic, linear constraints.

Beginning with Zero, related to Shūnyāta ‘Emptiness’ in Buddhism, it then gives an overview of the principal classes of number, from natural numbers and integers, through rationals and reals, to complex numbers, quaternions, and octonians. After many centuries of struggle to accept all these different types of number, their discovery indicates that human learning is reaching its natural conclusion, for there are no more major classes of number to be revealed.

The second section covers the operators between numbers, beginning with counting, addition, and multiplication and their inverses. It then shows how exponentiation and ever-increasingly powerful operators lead to gigantically enormous finite numbers, which never reach infinity.

The final two sections show how mathematicians generally look at infinite and infinitesimal numbers. The first of these describes the rather confused psychohistory of the infinitesimal calculus, at the core of quantitative, mechanistic science. It offers some fresh insights into the concepts of functional continuity and the continuum of the reals from the perspective of the Absolute Continuum.

Section four shows how Georg Cantor’s transfinite numbers, as infinities of infinities, lead naturally to Transfinity, called in Sanskrit Satchitānanda ‘Bliss of Absolute Truth and Consciousness’, transcending the paradoxes that have so troubled mathematicians since the late 1800s. For in this Divine, Nondual manner, there is then no longer any separation between mathematics and mysticism, or between any other opposites.

This wonderful unification leads to a comprehensive science of humanity, as the solution to the ultimate problem of thousands of years of human learning at evolution’s glorious culmination, known as its Omega Point, inseparable from its Alpha Point at the Still Centre of the Cosmos.

There are then no longer any divisions between the sciences and the humanities, which are all aspects of transdisciplinary Panosophy or the Unified Relationships Theory. This is popularly known as the perplexing Theory of Everything, which is elusive because of the mistaken belief that the Universe consists only of what is accessible to our five physical senses.

We can only understand what is happening to us all at the present time by looking inwards with unconditioned Self-reflective Intelligence, which is also necessary to comprehend Unifying Mysticism and Mathematics, as a mirror for what is within.

From a personal perspective, the principal purpose of Unifying Mysticism and Mathematics is to find God through science, as the subtitle indicates: To Realize Love, Peace, Wholeness, and the Truth. Such an awakening, liberating process is absolutely essential to deal equanimously with the near-term extinction of Homo sapiens, most probably through abrupt climate change.

I describe an overview of this critical global situation in the Epilogue, making some suggestions on how we could resolve the greatest existential crisis that our species has faced since our forebears set out thousands of years ago to seek an understanding of what it means to be human in relationship to God and the Universe.

Specifically, with Gens X, Y, and Z likely to be the last generations of children to be born on our beautiful planet Earth, we now have only a few months to complete the final revolution in science, helping them to see how they should have been educated to live with the unprecedented rate of evolutionary change that scientists and technologists are unknowingly driving today.

For it is not generally known that fourteen billion years of evolution passed through its Accumulation Point in chaos theory terms in 2004, give or take a couple of years, explaining why the world is degenerating into chaos at the moment, with rising isolationism, ultranationalism, and demagogical populism.

In my experience, there is only one way to deal with the polarization that is dividing groups of humans against each other: to live in harmony with the fundamental law of the Universe, recognizing that opposites are never separate from each other in Reality. Heraclitus aptly called this universal, irrefutable truth the Hidden Harmony, which Aristotle denied, sending Western thought into the cul-de-sac it has reached today.

Yet, even though an awakening minority live in twilight, with the majority in darkness, perhaps it is still possible to disperse the clouds that inhibit us from realizing in the depth of our beings that the brilliant light of Cosmic Consciousness is Ultimate Reality. By realizing that we are all interconnected with each other, perhaps a miracle could still happen before our inevitable demise, helping us realize our True Nature in kindness and compassion for each other, collectively revealing God as Stillness, Presence, Love, Peace, Wholeness, and the Truth.

Being Wholeness

Ever since I was seven years of age, I have had one interest in life: to understand the relationships between humanity, God, and the Universe. Today, nearly seventy years later, I have realized in the depth and breadth of my being that these three entities are not separate from each other; they are one and the same being.

However, this inner knowing, which is best called Gnosis, is Ineffable, quite impossible to put into words. Nevertheless, like any other Gnostic, I endeavour to do so, in order to share my great joy with those around me, who are also inseparable from God and the Universe, as Absolute Wholeness.

What has moved me to write these words today is that I have just finished the third chapter of my book Unifying Mysticism and Mathematics: To Realize Love, Peace, Wholeness, and the Truth. This chapter, titled ‘From Zero to Transfinity’, marks the apotheosis of my life’s work to heal the cultural split between science and spirituality.

For, as numbers, Zero corresponds to Shūnyāta in Buddhism and another word for Transfinity in Sanskrit is Satchitānanda ‘Bliss of Absolute Truth and Consciousness’. So by learning to integrate all knowledge in all cultures and disciplines, individual consciousness deepens and expands to such an extent that it becomes coterminous with Consciousness itself.

There is then no past or future and we can deal with the great existential crisis that humanity is facing today with equanimity in the Eternal Now, free of the sense of a separate self. For this sense of separation has led to the chaos the world is in today, at the culmination of some fourteen billion years of predominantly divergent evolution.

Furthermore, Homo sapiens is not immortal and abrupt climate change is highly likely to bring about our demise in the next one to three decades. As mystics have discovered through the ages, we can only face death in all its forms through the realization of our True Absolute Nature, which is Oneness, unified with Wholeness in Wholeness.

Wholeness arises from evolutionary convergence through the irrepressible power of Life bubbling up from the Divine Origin of the Cosmos, like a bubbling fountain. Then there is just Stillness, Presence, Love, Peace, Wholeness, and the Truth, which passes all understanding, transcending the entire world of form, including conceptual structures and their expressions in the signs and symbols of language, such as these words in this blog post. Nothing, for me, is more beautiful.
